CounterPoint Music & Arts Festival and Front Gate Tickets Present the Future of Music Festivals: Great Music, Food, Drinks, All with the Tap of a Wristband
First North American Music Festival to Accept Wristband (RFID) Payment for All Attendees
(KINGSTON DOWNS, GA) One of the Southeast’s premiere music destination festivals, the CounterPoint Music & Arts Festival, teamed up this past weekend in Kingston Downs, Georgia, with Front Gate Tickets, one of the world’s leading providers of turnkey, end-to-end ticketing, fulfillment, marketing and RFID wristband solutions, to give music fans a glimpse of what the future of live music and other large scale events will look like. Front Gate Tickets introduced the brand new service, called “FestiPay,” for the first time at CounterPoint, enabling music fans to gain instant access to the festival site, as well as the ability to buy drinks, food and other necessities with a quick tap of their pre-registered wristband.
Nearly 60,000 music fans attended the CounterPoint Music & Arts Festival over the three days (April 25—27) with a significant portion of them registering their wristbands online. That simple process not only safeguards fans against loss or theft of their tickets, but also enables them to sign up to activate their wristbands for cashless RFID-based purchases on the festival site. The activation process requires a credit card and a fan-generated PIN for security.
More traditional forms of payment – cash and credit cards – were also available to music fans at CounterPoint, which included such acclaimed performers as OutKast, Pretty Lights, Foster The People, STS9 and many others.
“To our knowledge this is the first time a music festival has offered a cashless wristband payment solution on this scale anywhere in North America,” said Front Gate Tickets President Maura Gibson. “The system worked flawlessly. 30% of all transactions at the bars utilized the FestiPay RFID wristband option, three times more than credit card transactions. It’s clear that fans are thrilled with the convenience and security of the new service. We are looking forward to rolling out FestiPay to other large-scale events in the future.”
“We are always interested in improving the fan experience at CounterPoint and this new technology helped us do exactly that,” said C3 Presents partner Charlie Walker, one of the festival’s promoters. “We will continue to look for ways to empower the music fans that come to CounterPoint every year.”
In addition to reducing wait times at concession stands, FestiPay provides a number of benefits to both fans and festival promoters. Fans have the convenience and added safety of leaving cash and credit cards off-site, which is particularly relevant for camping festivals. And FestiPay gives promoters better insight into the purchasing habits of fans, empowering them to offer more of what they want on festival grounds.
Front Gate Tickets has a long history of using RFID wristband technology with its festival clients, including Lollapalooza, the Austin City Limits Festival, and Electric Forest Festival all of which utilize the technology to speed fan entrance to their events. In addition, the technology is regularly used for internal access control to VIP and backstage areas. Front Gate is also spearheading the use of the technology to enrich fan/sponsor interactions, social media check-ins and enter-to-win onsite experiences. The company expects to be able to announce details on these developments later this year.
